Ice cream excellence at Uncle Leo’s Ice Cream Emporium in Borth
My favourite place in Borth is Uncle Leo’s Ice Cream Emporium – a tiny cafe in the middle of the village, opposite The Victoria Inn. It’s run by Gabrielle and Chris who have made this little gem very pretty with hand painted walls and artworks (they are great artists as well as cooks!). The atmosphere is really friendly and relaxed with lots of locals and friends catching up and perhaps playing one of the cafe’s board games to pass the time.
You certainly won’t find packets and frozen sameness in this establishment. The food is really fresh and plenty of proper chopping, simmering and baking so obviously takes place. The choice is not huge but every time I have eaten here it has been totally delicious and really brilliant value. It’s definitely worth the trip to Borth if you’re a veggie and there are also plenty of simple and healthy choices for kids like boiled eggs and soldiers. As one might expect from such a great little cafe, the coffee is excellent but the thing that really sets this place apart is the ice cream. All I can say is that it’s truly amazing and you really would be hard pushed to ever taste better!
